Design Thinking

The Design Thinking Pathway focuses on a creative, flexible process for solving socially important problems. A variety of industries have identified the design thinking process as central to how they approach problem finding and problem solving. Learners will develop compelling ideas using human-centered design.

For each design thinker, please enjoy their reflective videos and creator’s statements. Be sure to also click on their name as it will take you to their semester digital portfolios.

Creator’s Statement: After thinking deeply about what motivated me, what inspired curiosity and contemplation, and what will stick with me for the days, months, and years to come, I present to you my journey through an unprecedented fall 2020 semester. This narrated Clips video is a simple yet meaningful final product that showcases a compilation of learning artifacts from our Design Thinking course at Futures Lab as well as pull quotes from my written script. My intention is to step into my voice, choose courage over comfort, and take a chance at inspiring others to do the same. I viewed the creation process as an opportunity to pause and reflect deeply on one of the most difficult semesters of my career and
challenged myself to find the learning, find the growth, find the joy. One of the themes at Futures Lab this year is ‘Tell Your Story,’ so this is my story. Enjoy.

Throughout my learning career, I have always been motivated to do better and improve in whatever I could. All my life I have been very reflective, my mind thought a lot, I was processing and questioning all of the time. I like to learn and even though my learning has been very different from what it looked like in the past years, my learning hasn’t stopped. Here is my learning journey up till now in the fall of 2020 in my Design Thinking class at Futures Lab. This exhibition video was made using WeVideo, and in the video I narrated my learning journey and along with my voice the video demonstrates images of my learning artifacts. I want to demonstrate to others what I’ve learned, what this class can offer, and how Design Thinking has built on my learning. The creation process for me was a bit difficult. I had to collect almost everything I had at hand to demonstrate what I had done and learned, and I had to use all of my abilities to create a video with all of these elements brought together. But in the end, it made me a better learner, and at Futures Lab, you demonstrate who you are as a learner and this is me.

After thinking deeply about what motivated me, what sparked curiosity in me, and what will stick with me for the months and years to come, I present to you my journey of the 2020 Design Thinking class. The video I made talking about my experiences is short and meaningful to me because it made me really think about what I did in the Design Thinking class from when I started with Launch 2020 and created my work space to how I needed it to be so I could focus on reflecting through the 60 second keynote. Things that made this experience meaningful to me is how we had different guest speakers come in and talk to us about why it is important to take a design thinking class as well as how they use it in their everyday lives. My intention is to be able to step out of my comfort zone and choose courage over comfort as well as try to inspire others as much as I can. I see this creator's statement as an opportunity to be able to reflect once more about my work and what I did over the last couple months. One of the themes in Futures Lab is to ‘Tell Your Story’ and this is my story.

I spent some time reflecting and looking back on everything that I have learned this semester, writing down every notable experience or a time where I felt that I grew or pushed myself out of my comfort zone. After narrowing down my thoughts and feelings about the past semester, I put together a narrated video that truly encompasses my journey with self motivation and persistence from the past semester. At the Futures Lab, or more specifically in Design Thinking, our main goals for this semester were to share our work, be authentic, and take risks, so I took those all into account when making my exhibition video. I wanted to be authentic and share my story with a wider audience. I hope that through my video you will learn a little about me as well our Design Thinking course.

I looked at how I have changed over the last semester in Design Thinking and looked at why I have changed and what I have learned. I found the mindset that has helped me improve over time is looking at problems as solvable. I want to share my learning because I think that this was the most important lesson I learned from Design Thinking that I hope everyone can take with them into next semester. I also think looking back at my learning will help me internalize it and allow me to bring it with me. The most important thing I did to build my learning presentation was reflect on what I want to bring with me and what I have learned that has made my life better or that has deepened my thinking.

Learners in the Design Thinking pathway focused on developing their creative confidence and engaging in the design thinking process to develop compelling solutions to complex problems during our fall 2020 semester. We also embraced the Futures Lab theme of ‘Get Curious. Talk to People. Try Stuff. Tell Your Story.’ In the spirit of ‘telling our story,’ please enjoy this personal interview, which demonstrates this learner’s unique journey in Design Thinking.

I have created a video to demonstrate what I have accomplished in the last semester in my Design Thinking class at Futures Lab. In this video, you will hear my voice explaining what you are seeing as I go through a slideshow of the work. The work you will be seeing will include my digital portfolio, my BugList Project final results and how we got to those results, and how I got along being remote this year. I have created this to show you all my work, so that you can see what I am capable of doing in one semester of learning. I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without the help of my teammates and being able to bounce ideas off of one another, and the design process that gave us a path to follow to create our BugList Project, so please enjoy the work I have put together for you.

I thought about what motivated me, what challenged my knowledge/beliefs, and what I'm going to take with me to my future scenarios, so I would like to share a reflection video I compiled about my fall 2020 semester at Futures Lab. I made this video that compiles narration and visual representations of products I made. This video is quite simple but the overall goal is to reflect back on the semester of growth I had at Futures Lab in Design Thinking. My intention with this video is to share my overall experience in this course and share things I have learned along the way. I viewed the creation process as a way to share about this wacky perplexing semester during the COVID pandemic. I’m going to share the growth and knowledge I gained during this semester of unexpectedness. I hope you enjoy.

After reflecting over my learning, whether it was classwork, the motivation to do, the inspiration, and the creativity, I present to you my final project and reflection for fall 2020 focused on my time at Futures Lab in Design Thinking. This is a simple video that represents so much of my learning through the first part of the school year giving you a better understanding of who I am as a learner, teacher, and peer. My intention is to put myself and my work out there for feedback and just that step towards the outside of school experience such as jobs and higher education, even though physically we have been online most of the time. So with this video I hope I can show the growth of my thinking, reflecting, and views of our time in the fall, not only as a learner but as a person. This is my learning with my stamp placed right on it to bring you into my story.

Over the past couple of months in Futures lab and more specifically Design Thinking, my learning has changed and become better. My journey and time through Design Thinking has been a fun one and is something that I have enjoyed. This final exhibition project is a way to show my production over the months and what this class has done for me, whether it is my learning or just new methods for planning out and making ideas for the project. This project helps me reflect on these methods and my learning so I can see what was better for me and what might be better for me in the future.

After thinking deeply about what motivated me, what inspired curiosity and contemplation, and what will stick with me for the days, months, and years to come, I present to you my journey through an unprecedented fall 2020 semester. It was very rough for me because I went on vacation for two weeks so the work kept piling up along with other things outside my life not school related. The hardest part for me was trying to understand Schoology. I still don't understand it, but it's fine because I heard we're using Google Classroom next semester, which will set me up for success.I will also have the skills learned from this class. For example, being more open minded has allowed me to be a better problem solver, which is very good because life hits you with a lot of problems you have to deal with. It was a rough semester for me, but the next one will be better. Thank you for listening to my story.

This video explains to you how design thinking has helped me solve problems and provides specific examples. Additionally, it shows my journey through our Design Thinking course this semester at Futures Lab. I hope to show others the intricacies of design and how well it works if used correctly. I also hope to reiterate to myself the importance of this class and how I can continue to use it to solve problems and create solutions for human beings.

After reflecting back on this fall 2020 Design Thinking semester, I present to you what motivated me, what inspired curiosity and contemplation, and what I will take with me the rest of my life. This video is my final product of this amazing fall 2020 semester in Design Thinking. It shows what I have learned and artifacts from this semester. My goal of this video is to help teach people the importance of things that may go unnoticed and could affect them greatly. In creating this final product, I learned a lot of things about myself, and I hope that the audience will take a moment and reflect because they might learn something too. Life is so much more enjoyable when you learn and grow. This is my journey and I hope you enjoy.
